God's Covenant with Abraham
This week we look at a comprehensive and in-depth exploration of God's covenant with Abraham as described in Genesis 12:1-3 and expounded upon with the same promise passed down to the Jewish nation, emphasizing the promises of land, nation, and blessing. We trace Abraham's journey from Mesopotamia to Canaan, emphasizing the reliability of God's promises despite long waits and challenges. We also look at broader theological concepts such as Biblical election as pointed out in Genesis 12:3 and the intertwining of God's sovereignty with human free will, as well as eschatology.
We follow the thread of the fulfillment of God's promises through Abraham's lineage, including Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Joshua, and David; focusing on how this promise and covenant were fulfilled amidst Israel's history of disobedience and exile, as well as how God’s Word connects these events to the experiences of persecution and revival in Christian life. We further trace God’s original promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob into historical and prophetic aspects, detailing Israel's captivity, restoration, and the prophetic significance of their national restoration in 1948. Our study introduces us to Biblical eschatology, focusing on future prophecy grounded in Scripture, and anticipation of the fulfillment of everything wrapped up in the person and eternal ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ. We highlight prophecies from Ezekiel and Jeremiah, which underscores God's unwavering faithfulness and future plans of spiritual revival and restoration of Israel back to relationship with Him. We conclude with an introduction to eschatology and the observable unfolding of end times prophecies.
