Colossians 2:9-23 - Things that we don't let
Colossians 2:9-23 Paul emphasizes the importance of knowing who Jesus, then we can understand our identity which comes from understanding the significance of Jesus' work on the cross. Paul highlights the completion and transformation found in Christ alone, warning against legalism, false teachings, false humility, and the pressure to focus on man-made doctrines and systems rather than on Christ. The focus is on holding fast to the Head, Jesus, and growing in knowledge and understanding of God's Word.
Paul’s concern was that the Colossians were allowing something other than Christ to dictate and regulate their identity and what they can and can not do. Paul emphatically and strongly in the strongest tenses of Greek literature discourages legalism, stresses the sufficiency of Christ's work on the cross, and advises against allowing external rules or false teachings to detract from a personal relationship with Jesus.
